About Oregon Outback Dark

In 2024, Lake County earned designation as the Oregon Outback International Dark Sky Sanctuary โ€” the largest in the world. With virtually no light pollution for hundreds of miles, the night sky here is what most of humanity has never seen.

On a clear, moonless night you can see thousands of stars, the structure of the Milky Way, meteor showers, and even the faint glow of distant galaxies with the naked eye. It is rapidly becoming one of the premier astro-tourism destinations in North America.

๐ŸŒŒ Dark Sky Tip

You're inside the world's largest Dark Sky Sanctuary. Pack a red flashlight, give your eyes 20 minutes to adjust, and plan around a new moon for the best view of the Milky Way.
